Science Writer

Emily is a veteran science writer with a talent for explaining complicated things in simple ways. She is a features editor at the tech magazine IEEE Spectrum where she covers power and energy. Prior to joining Spectrum full-time, Emily wrote about biotechnology for the journals ​​Nature and Nature Biotechnology for over 18 years. Her work has also appeared in Scientific American, Discover, Outside and the New York Times. With every word she writes, Emily strives to say something true and useful. 
Emily has a master's degree in journalism from Columbia University and a bachelor's degree in communications from Vanderbilt University. She began her career in New York City in 2003 and now lives in Nashville with her family. In her free time she enjoys coaching youth tennis and supporting her community schools.
